Chic Vintage Clarkston Michigan Wedding

Magritte and Erik’s Clarkston Michigan wedding felt like stepping into something both nostalgic yet uniquely theirs. They started the day at home, surrounded by their people. Then moved into an intimate ceremony at Depot Park, followed by a candlelit reception at Union Woodshop that leaned into that vintage-chic, tucked-away dinner party feel.

Every part of the day centered around what actually mattered to them. It was thoughtful, stylish, and warm. The kind of intimate wedding day that pulls you in and makes you want to stay a little longer!

Getting Ready & a First Look at Home

There’s something about getting ready at home that just hits differently. Not in a big, over-the-top way. Just in the way where everyone already knows where the snacks are, people are half ready, half not, and there’s this constant flow of voices, music, and someone asking where their shoes went. This Clarkston Michigan wedding started right in the middle of all of that.

I loved how Erik and Magritte stayed in it together, surrounded by their people the whole time. No disappearing into separate rooms for hours. At one point they even paused everything to take a shot with their closest friends, which honestly felt like the most accurate representation of the day. Fun and completely grounded in the people they love.

Before getting dressed, Magritte had this moment with her mom, finishing up her veil and holding the bouquet they made together. A full waterfall of tulips that somehow felt both simple and like a big deal at the same time. Her dress had these tied shoulder straps that made it feel a little playful, and Erik went classic with a dark suit.

Clarkston Michigan Wedding Ceremony & Portraits at DePOT Park

Their ceremony at Depot Park felt really true to everything that came before it. Small and centered around the people who matter most. Everyone gathered under the pavilion, with the string lights already starting to glow a little, standing close enough to actually feel like they were part of it instead of just watching from a distance. It was meaningful and very them. This part of their Clarkston Michigan wedding felt less like a big moment being put on display and more like something shared between them and their people.

After, we wandered the park while the light started to shift. That in-between time where it’s not quite sunset, not quite dark, and everything just softens a little. The fall color was fully doing its thing, leaves everywhere, warm tones, the kind of backdrop you don’t have to force.

At one point they ended up near the water with the geese just existing around them, which somehow made it better. It all felt easy in the sense that nothing was trying too hard. Just two people, their people nearby, and a day that stayed exactly what it was the whole time.

A Vintage-Chic Clarkston Michigan Wedding Reception at Union woodShop

Their reception at Union Woodshop fit the day perfectly. It felt nostalgic and just styled enough without losing that relaxed, come-as-you-are feeling. The candlelit stairs leading up really set that vibe right away. Warm light everywhere, people mingling, drinks in hand, settling in with the people they love most. This part of their Clarkston Michigan wedding leaned into that vintage-chic, tucked-away dinner party energy I love.

Inside they had long tables filled up with flowers, wine, candlelight and lamps. Wrapped mini cheeseburgers made their way around, cookie bags in hand thanks to Magritte, and of course, lots of dancing. They even signed their names and date on the wall, which just made it feel that much more like it was theirs for the night. They also had the cutest little cake with the tiny penguin toppers which felt exactly right. Their reception just all around felt so intimate and so cozy!

When You Let It Feel Like You

Your wedding day really can look however you want it to. Getting ready at home, an intimate ceremony at a park or even your own backyard (I have an Ultimate Backyard Wedding in Michigan Guide if you’re going that route), and a reception somewhere local that actually feels like you.

And if you’re still figuring out what direction feels right, I also talk more about small weddings on Why a Michigan Elopement or Micro Wedding Might Be the Right Choice for You. This Clarkston Michigan wedding is such a good reminder that it doesn’t have to follow a template to be meaningful.

This Clarkston Michigan wedding is such a good reminder that it doesn’t have to follow a template to be meaningful and beautiful. The days that tend to stick the most are the ones where couples lean into what they care about, how they want it to feel, and let the rest fall into place. That’s always what I’m drawn to photographing.
