Let me just start this by saying I just love Audrey and Huston so much. They are so sweet and in love, and I had so much fun running around the city with them for their Detroit engagement photos. I honestly felt like the luckiest gal all day because these cool people connected with my work. They trusted me fully and loved any idea I threw at them, and that’s something that I don’t take lightly!
For their engagement session, we hit up multiple Detroit engagement photo locations, including SPKRBX, downtown Detroit in general, and Lafayette Coney. All of these locations are places they love to go all the time, so it just made it so special.
If you’re looking for inspiration for your own engagement photos and love editorial film vibes in the city, then you’ll definitely want to see all of this one!

SPKRBOX Detroit Engagement Photos
Audrey and Huston kicked off their Detroit engagement photos at SPKRBOX, which felt like the most natural place to start. This spot is colorful and has great music, so it tied in perfectly with their love for electronic music. As a Detroit engagement photographer, these are the kinds of locations I always love. Places that actually mean something to you, not just look good on camera!
Everything felt easy and romantic with these two. They shared drinks and really just leaned into each other. The space added just enough edge without taking away from what mattered most, which is the connection between them. And their outfits pulled it all together in a way that felt timeless.
If you’re considering SPKRBOX for your own Detroit engagement photos, it’s such a fun, unique spot to start your session. I also photographed another session here with Cassie and Jarred. Taking in Downtown Detroit With Audrey & Huston
Next we explored downtown for more Detroit engagement photos, and even with the cold January air, they were completely in their element. They shared how much they love Detroit and really wanted their photos to reflect that. We started on a rooftop with some of the best views of the city before wandering through alleyways and little corners of downtown, getting the perfect mix of the architecture and energy that makes the city so special!
We then stopped at the cute tables outside Un Deux Trois at Hudson’s along Nick Gilbert Way, where they slowed down for a bit and soaked it all in. As a Detroit engagement photographer, these are the moments I love most, when couples can just be themselves during their session.

One Last Stop at Lafayette Coney Island in Detroit
We ended the night at Lafayette Coney Island, a place that means a lot to Audrey and Huston. They come here all the time, even on Christmas, which has become one of their traditions, so getting to include it in their Detroit engagement photos made it feel extra special.
There’s something about this place that just feels like Detroit. The tiled walls and vintage details give it that that classic diner feel that hasn’t changed in the best way. It was the perfect contrast to the rest of their session and such a natural place for them to just laugh and be themselves.
Honestly my time with them felt less like a photoshoot and more like a night out, which is exactly what made this session so special!

A Few Detroit Engagement Photos on Film
Throughout their session, I also shot a few rolls of film, which is something I offer as an add-on for Detroit engagement sessions. I love mixing in film alongside digital because it brings a completely different feel to the photos.
Every so often, I’d pull out my film camera and capture a few frames in between everything else. The softness and the way film handles light adds such a nostalgic and timeless quality that fits so naturally with engagement photos in Detroit. I always love getting to photograph the same moments in two different ways.

Love From Audrey & Huston:
“screamed when I saw your email come through. We absolutely love every photo. I don’t know how our wedding photos will top your artistic talent from this shoot. Your camera and editing is giving love in the city in from the 1960s – its jaw dropping. The photo of Huston picking me up with the “Better Half” sign in the background… unreal. The photos shot through the windows of Spkrbox and the coney are by far our favorites. I think your camera + Spkrbox’s colors is my new favorite combination.”
