Esli and Matt’s Detroit elopement was modern and intimate. We met up to hop on the People Mover first (because honestly, such a fun Detroit moment), grabbed photos on the ride and around the city, then made our way to Birmingham City Hall where the mayor married them, which is just the coolest touch! Shot on a mix of digital and film, their day had that editorial, fashion-forward edge while still feeling relaxed and real. As a Detroit elopement photographer, it’s days like this that remind me why I love what I do so much.

Esli & Matt’s Downtown Detroit Elopement Photos
The second I saw Esli and Matt walking across the street toward me, I knew this Detroit elopement was going to be something special. Her tailored ivory suit with a deep neckline, soft birdcage veil, bold red lip, and daisies paired with a gold clutch were everything. It felt editorial in the most effortless way. Matt kept it classic in a sharp black suit, and together they looked so chic.
We started with portraits right on the Detroit People Mover, letting the movement and city backdrop do their thing. Afterward, we hopped off and wandered downtown for more portraits. It was the kind of creative, city-forward moments I love capturing as a Detroit elopement photographer!

An Intimate Birmingham City Hall Elopement
Their ceremony at Birmingham City Hall was simple but so meaningful. Esli and Matt were married by Mayor Therese Longe, with just two witnesses (and myself) present. Afterward, we got portraits all around the building like the winding staircase with that dreamy window light, the vintage elevator (which might be one of my favorite portrait spots ever), and finally the City Hall steps where they had the biggest smiles and their marriage license in hand. As a Detroit elopement photographer, I love when couples blend locations like this with creative portrait moments!

Film Images From Esli + Matt’s Day
Esli and Matt chose to add film to their collection, and honestly, some of my favorite images from their Detroit elopement came from those rolls. Film has this way of adding depth, softness, and a timeless texture that just feels different from digital, especially for city elopements like this where emotion and movement are everywhere.
If you’re considering film for your own day, I recently shared more about what makes film so special in my blog, Why You Should Add Film Wedding Photography to Your Day where I break down the differences and what to know before adding it to your Detroit elopement!
